Ankle arthroscopy is surgery that uses tiny cameras and surgical tools to examine and repair the tissue inside and outside the ankle. This camera is called an arthroscope and the procedure allows the doctor to detect the problem and make repairs with the help of small incisions.The doctor places the arthroscope and other surgical tools inside the ankle to diagnose and repair the damaged composition in the ankle joint. This means you may have less pain and easy recovery as compared to open surgery that’s the reason this surgery is recommended most of the time.

Ankle arthroscopy has a 96% success rate as compared to open surgery of the ankle joint. You will receive general anesthesia before surgery to make you fall asleep and this will make you unable to feel the pain. For making ankle arthroscopy more smooth and easy recovery you have to keep do’s and don't in your mind like just after surgery you have to keep monitoring your ankle keep on ensuring your bones have healed correctly. Remember even after surgery your broken bones might be repaired but you won't have to give strain to the ankle joint. Your broken bone will heal within 6 weeks or can even take more time. Therefore you have to avoid weight bearing on your ankle joint. Your doctor will prescribe you a cast after surgery wear that accordingly for fast recovery. Also for walking some walking aids will be given i.e. crutches and canes for fast recovery, use them. Exercise with care you have to go for weight bearing exercise gradually and according to your therapist do not exert your ankle at times of recovery. Make sure you complete your exercise in a given time. After surgery just rest, try to keep your leg elevated for first two week after the surgery. Keep your cast or bandage dry do not change it. Resume your normal medication once you get advised by your surgeon. Take your pain medications when needed. If you lift things or walk a lot at work it will take 1 to 2 months before you go back your doctor will tell you how often or how much movement you can do with your ankle and leg. You can take a shower 48 to 72 hours after the surgery and clean the cuts (incision) with regular soap and water. Keep an eye on any complications post surgery.
