Rotator Cuff Tendonitis

The rotator cuff tendonitis is a condition that affects the tendons and muscles that help the shoulder joint in movement, if there is tendonitis that directly means that the tendons are either irritated or inflamated due to certain reasons. The rotator cuff tendonitis is also called impingement syndrome. 

The rotator cuff tendonitis affects the shoulder joint over time. This can occurr due to several reasons that includes keeping the shoulder in one position for so long, sleeping on the same shoulder side every night, or any activities or exercise that require lifting the arm overhead.

Symptoms of rotator cuff tendinitis

  • Pain and swelling in the shoulder

Diagnosis

How is rotator cuff tendonitis treated?

The initial treatment begins with managing pain and swelling that promotes healing, this is done by

  • Avoid over using of affected shoulder
  • Applying cold pack to the shoulder
  • Taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs

1) Physical therapy - The doctor may refer a physical therapist that consists of stretching and other passive exercises to restore the range of motion and to reduce pain.

2) Medications and steroid injections -  Proper medications are used for the management of tendonitis if that is not being managed by conservative treatments, doctors use steroid injections which reduces the inflammation and pain.
